Update

I missed a few days of blogging due to a couple things. First, the holiday prep for the weekend ahead of time because, secondly Nelly went to the vet. I ended up traveling with my daughter to take Nelly to the vet in Pullman to get her fixed. Yes, that’s an hour and a half one way, no, there was nothing closer, because she is a heavy pig and her age. She ended up spending a couple nights there. I had to prep for her return as well as the holiday including a bit of grieving. But all is well, and I am back to a little schedule here. It’s spring break around here too, but I was able to carve out some time to blog away.
Nelly, did quite well when she was there…lol, the trip there and loading her into a Subaru legacy was quite eventful and loud! LOL! Funny story, we went to put her harness on to discover she outgrew it…her neck became wider, lol. Needless to say, we wrapped her leash behind her front legs, not her neck, and she did not like that at all. But once we got her into the back of the well covered car, she settled…except she got car sick…and apparently with a pig that means more than throwing up…it was gross, but you have to giggle some.
Once we got there it was pretty easy getting her out, but it was quite the chore to get her to move toward the holding pen for her stay, lol, it took three of us, two pushing her and me pulling. Goodness! I did not go to pick her up, but that was another eventful evening where the kids had been waiting for them to come do the discharge, a half hour before closing, and there was panic when no one came out and they had shut the lights off in the building, etc. Turned out there were two smaller ladies trying to load Nelly onto this cart and bring her out…Nelly was not cooperating…LOL!!! Oh my goodness. They finally got her out to the car with the help of the kiddos and the four of them lifted Nelly on a blanket into the back of the car. Whew!
When they finally made it home she was still under the influence, so no car sickness this time, but she was groggy where we had to direct her in. She was a bit upset that we sent her away. But once she got into the house, she didn’t even want to eat, but totally went straight for her bed made on the floor. She laid down, and I pet her a bit to make up with her…then it broke my heart when she started crying. No joke, she had tears run from her eyes…she thought we had taken her to a new place to live, since she is a rescue she knew the last time she rode in a car was to come home with us. It’s like this relief hit her that we weren’t abandoning her and that she was really home for good. It was so sad to see her like that, but she definitely has been extra sweet and loving toward everyone here at home. The spaying also plays part in her shift from her sassy self, lol. But it’s more than that, we see that she knows she’s not going anywhere else, this is home.
The vet even called this morning to tell us they missed her and how sweet she really was. I was like, hummm, she is sweet, but definitely stubborn, lol. I guess they got another piggy in that was not so nice and it caused them to appreciate Nelly even more. LOL! I guess raising a pig and kids are not so different. When you raise them in a loving disciplined way, and they go out, they do better than at home, lol!
Tell me about your pets! I am unsure if it will let you or not, but if it does, include a picture in the reply/comment section at the bottom of this page.
